نسبَ الشيخُ بدرُ الدين الزَّرْكَشيُّ ( ت 794 هـ ) في كتابه البرهانِ في علوم القرآن إلى سلطانِ العلماء الشيخ العزِّ ابنِ عبدِ السلام ( ت 660 هـ ) فتوى غريبةً مُفادها حُرمة كتابة المصحف( الآن ) على الرُّسُومِ الأُولى باصلاح الأئمة . والشيخُ العِزُّ بريءٌ من هذا الكلام . وبقي الناسُ قرونًا يستشكلون ما نقَلَه الزَّرْكَشيُّ عنه . واتَّكأَ على هذه الفتوى المُحرَّفةِ بعضُ دُعاةِ كتابة المصحف على ما اصطَلحَ عليه الناسُ من إملاءٍ . فجاءتْ هذه الرسالةُ الصغيرة لتُبرِّئَ سلطانَ العلماء ممَّا نُسِبَ إليه بسببِ التحريفِ الخَطِّيِّ .
