Study on Lengthening

This book was written by Imam Abi Bakr, Ahmad Bin Al-Husayn Bin Mahran. It is one of the oldest books to come to our hands, which mentioned the cases of lengthening names and timing. The number of cases of lengthening names for Bin Mahran is ten, as he mentioned them jointly, and, then, he detailed them justifying why he named them so. They are: Al-Hajz (suppression), AL-'adl (mildness), Al-Tamkin (confirming), Al-Bast (expansion), Al-Rawm (third of the vowel), Al-Farq (difference), Al-Binyah (structure), Al-Mubalaghah (exaggeration), Al-Mubdal min Al-Hamz (instead of Al-hamzah), and Al-Asl (the original). Thus, this study is one of the oldest studies to come to our hands on measuring cases of lengthening of the 'Alif as it is the measuring unit for cases of lengthening.
